In A Town Called Whitesboro

This is the seal for the village of Whitesboro, New York, with a population just shy of 4,000. So what’s going on with the two figures in the seal? Ignore, for a moment, the appalling amateurism of the illustration. It would seem to depict a Native American and a settler figure grappling in some way. Dancing? Unlikely. Perhaps the Native American has the settler in a judo hold and is about to flip him? Probably not. Instead, the interpretation many observers have is that the settler is simply strangling the Native American.
